John Lowrie Morrison - Winter at Taynish Knapdale

John Lowrie Morrison OBE is one of Scotland's most successful and best loved contemporary artists and he is a definite number one favourite at Union Art. As well as local buyers, he is collected by celebrities such as Sting, Madonna and Rick Stein. He is affectionately known by his fans as Jolomo.

John Lowrie Morrison was born in Glasgow in 1948, he studied art at Glasgow School of Art. He is best known for his paintings of the West of Scotland where his work always reflects his passion for the Scottish landscape that surrounds him. His artwork is filled with colour and texture which adds an energy to each image.

Jolomo taught art for more than twenty years until he became a full time artist in 1997. He has successfully exhibited his work in galleries internationally. He donates hugely to charity, a percentage of his sales go to charity and he donates artwork every year also. In November 2008 John was presented with an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland and in November 2009 he received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Abertay Dundee University, for “A significant contribution to Scottish culture”.  In 2011 he received an OBE for services to art and to charity in Scotland.

Winter at Taynish Knapdale is a top seller at union Art and it has been for a number of years. His vigorous application of paint in carefree, seemingly random strokes breaths life into his work. We are persuaded not simply to view the landscape, but rather to experience it. To view the full range of available Limited and Open Edition Prints by Jolomo please visit us.
