Richard Adams - Harvest Supper

Richard Adams was born in Hampshire in 1960. His family later moved to Wiltshire where he was brought up amidst the south Cotswold countryside, a landscape that has had a strong and lasting influence on his work.

Richard always enjoyed painting and drawing at school and at home but never really considered it as career until his last year at school when he found out about a local foundation course. Adams then went on to complete a BA Hons in Graphic Design at Leicester Polytechnic, followed by a number of years in London producing images for clients including the Radio Times and BP. He has exhibited regularly in London and elsewhere in the UK to great acclaim, and internationally in Sydney, Washington, Bremen and Madrid. He moved to Sussex in the mid 1990s where he now lives with his partner and two young children.

All of Richard's paintings are produced using chalk pastel and then fixed in a special varnish that creates a protective layer. He's developed and refined his style over the years and didn't start making the kind of images you see now until his thirties. Quite often his work features busy scenes with 'odd' people that appear to float above the ground. His work has great attention to detail and his art reflects his humour and wild imagination. Harvest Supper is a great example of this, it celebrates the diverse aspects of the English countryside with a comic streak and offbeat attention to detail with the idiosyncrasies of village life. This piece is available as a Signed Limited Edition Print with an edition size of 175.
