Michael Sanders - Walking the Dog.

 

The sun is shining so this Week's Artwork of the Week is a glorious shimmering beach scene by the talented artist Michael Sanders. Walking the Dog is a Signed Limited Edition Print of 250. The artwork features a single figure walking a dog, the light reflects on the sea creating a beautiful glimmering scene. Michael has captured the changing light and colour of the landscape. The small solo figure gives a sense of scale to the scene and conveys a mood.

Michael Sanders comes from a family of painters and from the moment he could walk Michael held a paint brush. Since graduating from Art School with a degree in Fine Art, he has worked full time as an artist whose paintings are published worldwide.

His style has developed over the years, initially he worked in watercolour but as he began to travel his style evolved and he worked in oils on much larger canvasses. He painted in various capital cities through Europe and during this time became interested in texture and contrasting light and shadow.

After six years of living abroad, Michael had a strong desire to return to England and put down his roots: 'I felt a real urge to return to the UK where I now have two studios: one in Norfolk, and one in Cornwall on the Helford river. Both counties inspire me for different reasons and I enjoy the challenges both landscapes offer me. It is from my Cornish studio that new techniques have emerged, which have filtered through into my Norfolk landscapes. Mixed media techniques, on both canvas and paper, using a more impasto style together with texture over-painted with washes and translucent glazes help describe foreground detail and texture without becoming too illustrative.'

Michael Sanders has won a prize in the Laing competition and his work was chosen for the Royal Institute of Oil Painters annual exhibition in the Mall Galleries. He has exhibited his paintings throughout the UK and Europe.
