Mark Grieves – Make your own Music (Canvas)

Mark Grieves is the latest artist to join Union Art and we are delighted to have Mark in our portfolio of fantastic artists. Mark’s musical artwork nearly always features a piano with two figures in love, reminding us of a time of black and white, music hall romance and timeless songs. Make your own Music is a modern take on a familiar theme, where the viewer can immerse themselves fully into the picture. This artwork is available as a limited edition print with an edition size of just 100 and can be purchased as a canvas artwork or a beautifully 3D resined piece. In this artwork you can see Mark’s attraction to shadows, light and contrast.

Mark Grieves previous hugely successful musical series was a complete sell-out and his originals and limited edition prints often sold within a few days of issue. Continuing on that theme after a break of 5 years, Mark has added a new dimension to the new Ebony and Ivory releases by offering not only canvas, but 3D resined editions. The new collection is framed using black and white lacquered frames which work fantastically well with the piano, they fuse beautifully with the artwork.

Mark’s method of working is a little bit different from the traditional approach. Normally you would work from light to dark but he finds it natural to work in reverse from dark to light. Working exclusively in oils he always starts with a completely black canvas and adds highlights until he find the balance in contrast. Mark works hard at composition and at the geometry emphasising light and shadow. He likes to paint titles to give clues. There is always a strong sense of narrative. He paints what comes into his head, from his imagination. Every original painting is time consuming and can take many weeks to complete but he is confident this shows in the end result. Due to the painstaking attention to detail, his original paintings are in short supply leading to a high demand.
