Jack Vettriano - Parlour of Temptation

Whether you love him or hate him Jack Vettriano is rarely out of the press. His artworks have stirred many debates between art critics and fans over the years. This week he has once again featured in numerous local and national newspapers  with dramatic headlines like "Jack Vettriano May Never Paint Again....". The Scottish artist has announced that due to a recent accident where he dislocated his right shoulder, he is unable to paint for the foreseeable future. Jack is currently undergoing a course of physiotherapy but is facing a long recovery period. He has thanked his fans for their continued support and interest.

Following Jack Vettriano's retrospective at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow last year, there have been "a substantial number of enquiries" regarding new paintings, according to his representatives. The show drew record attendances and Vettriano counts Hollywood star Jack Nicholson and former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson among his fans.

Jack Vettriano was born in 1951 and is a self taught artist who didn't take up painting full time until the age of 40. He found fame in 1989 when two of his canvases submitted to the Scottish Royal Academy sold on the first day. He was awarded an OBE in 2003 for Services to the Visual Arts and was the subject of a South Bank Show documentary, entitled ‘Jack Vettriano: The People’s Painter‘. His most famous painting, The Singing Butler, sold for £744,000 in 2004 and became one of the best selling prints in Britain.
