Nicholas St. John Rosse - The Setting Sun.

The Setting Sun is the perfect print for this time of year. The sun is going down on a glorious Summers day while the young girl is paddling in the sea. The scene is washed in the warm orange glow of the setting sun. This Signed Limited Edition Print is by the popular artist Nicholas St. John Rosse and has a total edition size of just 150.

Nicholas St. John Rosse was born in 1945 in Hampstead, London, and was educated at University College School. From an early age he became interested in painting, encouraged and enthused by watching the landscape painter Donald Towner at work in the open air and visiting his studio. On leaving school, a few months' employment at Clifford Milburn (Reeves) gave him the opportunity to become familiar with the work of Pietro Annigoni. Nicholas St.John Rosse went to see him in Italy with a portfolio of drawings and three very beneficial years in Florence followed, as a student with the master and attending the Scuola Del Nudo of the Florence Academy.

Nicholas St. John Rosse has exhibited widely in one-man shows in London, the counties and abroad and also in numerous group exhibitions including the R.A., the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal West of England Academy and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. He is a regular contributor to various art magazines.

The artist has twice won the coveted Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award. This Montreal based foundation exists specifically to encourage artists working in representational styles.

In 1981, Nicholas St.John Rosse, and his family, moved to North Cornwall where the wild cliffs and beaches provide the artist with endless settings for his figure/beach compositions. He is an active member of the St.Ives Society of Artists.

In 1998, he was commissioned by the Britannia Royal Naval College to paint a portrait of the late Admiral Sir John Fieldhouse, now hanging in the Senior Gun Room with the portraits of famous Admirals of the past. Recently, Nicholas St. John Rosse has completed a commissioned portrait of Admiral Sir Henry Leach, which was handed over to the College at the end of June. It also hangs in the Senior Gun Room where it can be seen on the days the College is open to the public.

The full collection of Limited Edition Prints by Nicholas St. John Rosse can be viewed at Union Art. Each piece has been reviewed and signed by the artist. Each limited edition print series from Union Art is available for immediate delivery and can be shipped worldwide.

Thank you for this limited addition picture with along two others that I chose which depict my daughter and me in the beach world where I was brought up in Devon/Cornwall and still evokes my memories of this-could-be-Greece too where we stayed on our own, just getting the best out of all the sea and sand/fab light/colours/ripples/sounds as in St Ives or Port Isaac and that cost nothing than only invaluable sensory moments forever .
