Philip Hearsey – Fluttering

We are delighted to introduce Philip Hearsey our newest sculptor to Union Art. His collection of bronze sculptures are exclusive to Union Art customers. Each piece in this collection is an original solid bronze.

Our Artwork of the Week this week is Fluttering by Philip Hearsey. Fluttering is a real bronze freely rotating on an oak wood base. It has an oxidised finish on face with a bright polished edge and back. The beautiful turquoise colour is not actually a coating, it’s the surface itself, it is a transformation of the material, by the material, and is an outward manifestation and celebration of the bronze.  This sculpture is of an intimate scale intended for interiors at 10 x 16 x 27.5 cms including the base.  The sculpture is solid and heavy and stamped with a monogram on the rear of the bronze.

Bronze is most often used to reproduce a work originally conceived in another medium whereas Philip Hearsey uses the sand-casting process to create vessel forms that honour and explore the qualities of bronze as a material in its own right.
